Installing nQuest

You should have received an onboarding email from nQuest with a link to download the nQuest app. Welcome to nQuest! We’re excited to have you on board.

If you didn’t receive an onboarding email (or have deleted it and would like to reinstall), you can download the app from Downloads.

Installation

Note

nQuest is available on Windows, MacOS, and Linux. Follow the section below for your operating system.

Windows

On the nQuest Downloads Page, select Download for Windows. An installer will be downloaded to your computer. Run this installer and follow the instructions to install nQuest.

Tip

Some virus scanners on Windows, like Zillya (Ukrainian), may flag the nQuest installer as malicious. This is a false positive, and the installer is safe to run. However, you may need to add an exception to your virus scanner to allow the installer to run.

If an installer is flagged, please let us know by contacting us at support@nquest.io. We can work with the virus scanner vendor to get the installer unflagged.

When you’re done, launch nQuest and create your first case!

MacOS

On the nQuest Downloads Page, select Download for Mac. An installer will be downloaded to your computer. Run this installer and follow the instructions to install nQuest.

Note

There are two versions of the Mac App, Apple Silicon and Intel. Select the version that matches your computer’s architecture.

In most cases, this should be autodetected and the correct version highlighted in the blue box.

When you’re done, launch nQuest and create your first case!

Linux

On the nQuest Downloads Page, select Download for Linux (x86_64). A single self-contained executable (an AppImage) named nQuest.AppImage will be downloaded to your computer. Linux doesn’t use an installer — you run this file directly.

Note

The Linux build is currently in beta, and is only available for x86_64 (64-bit Intel/AMD) systems.

First mark the downloaded file as executable, then run it. From a terminal, in the folder where it was downloaded:

chmod +x ./nQuest.AppImage
./nQuest.AppImage

The first time you run nQuest, it moves itself out of your downloads folder to a permanent home so it stays available after you clear downloads — ~/Applications if you already use that folder, otherwise ~/.local/bin. It also adds nQuest to your application menu, so from then on you can launch it like any other app.

When you’re done, launch nQuest and create your first case!
